For Adults

Counselling, Psychotherapy and Creative Therapy for Adults.

As an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I have been working with individuals offering counselling and psychotherapy since 2004. Over this time I have worked with clients with a wide range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, abuse and trauma, suicidal ideation, self-harm, family breakdown, emptiness, low self-esteem, bereavement and loss, infertility and motherhood.

I am a neurodivergent affirming therapist and understand that the world, and this includes the therapy world, can often feel like it is made for neurotypical people. As a neurodiversity affirming therapist I acknowledge and support neurodivergent differences and will work with you to understand your needs and preferences in how we work together.

Psychotherapy comes from the Ancient Greek words, ‘psyche’ and ‘therapeuien’ and means to ‘nurse, or hold, the soul’. As an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, I cannot rescue you, or give you an instant fix. What I can offer is to be alongside you, wherever your story may take us, and explore with you the complexity of thoughts, feelings, perceptions, experiences and behaviours that are uniquely yours and which may be causing you difficulty, distress or despair.

As children, we adopt certain ways of being to cope with both our internal developmental challenges and the stresses inherent in our childhood worlds. These adaptations which served us well as children can often hinder us in our adult lives and create difficulties for us.

It is often these unconscious parts of ourselves, our ‘blind spots’, that cause us distress. Psychotherapy provides the space, support and understanding required for us to gain consciousness and acknowledge the truth of who we are, even those parts of ourselves that we may have disowned, forgotten about or hidden.

As an integrative therapist, how I work will be tailored to your needs and will evolve from the relationship we build together. I will draw upon various schools of thought including Transactional Analysis, Person-Centred, Existential, Psychodynamic and Transpersonal to best support you in your journey. Although counselling and psychotherapy are talking therapies, it can sometimes be too difficult to speak of our experiences, especially those that we find frightening or shameful. Sometimes our experiences are beyond words and so I also offer creative therapy to help you explore experiences that can otherwise feel too overwhelming. Visualisation, art, writing, sand play and mindfulness exercises can help you to connect to your inner world and express what cannot be communicated in words.

A Safe Place

Within the safety of the therapeutic relationship we can begin to unearth those parts of ourselves which we may never have been conscious of before. Making things conscious helps us to create a fuller and more accurate picture of who we are and the meaning of the difficulties and distress we are experiencing.
